ATTICA, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—North Central Electric Cooperative (NCE), in partnership with CoBank, a national cooperative bank, is proud to announce a $9,294 grant to Mohawk Local Schools. The purpose of the funding is to assist with the purchase of laser cutter for the district’s STEAM lab, scheduled to open in August for students in kindergarten through sixth grade to use.

Andrew Sprang, the superintendent at Mohawk, sought the grant for the STEAM lab equipment to continue adding to the educational experience provided to students within the district.

“We believe that providing a learning opportunity for our students in a hands-on environment will promote the pillars of critical thinking, communication, and perseverance,” Sprang said. “All of these are skills that we value in our students but also understand will be beneficial for them as they get older and then transition into their careers.”

The CoBank Sharing Success matching grant program allows NCE to demonstrate “Concern for Community,” one of its Seven Cooperative Principles. Through this grant, the cooperative can support the continued growth and education of young minds who will eventually have an impact on the communities and people that NCE serves.

“Helping our schools obtain the materials and resources necessary to directly impact the lives of the children within our community is vital to their quality of life,” said NCE President/CEO Ed VanHoose. “Our cooperative founders worked together 90 years ago to form NCE, and we’re excited to help foster that same spirit of collaboration at Mohawk through this grant.”

NCE continues to partner with CoBank to assist schools, organizations, and the community with funding wherever possible. For more information about NCE, CoBank, or the Sharing Success program, please visit ncelec.org.
