MANSFIELD, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW) – For generations, the Renaissance Theatre has served as a gathering place where stories come to life, memories are created, and the Mansfield community comes together. Now, as the historic theatre prepares for its next century, audiences are stepping into a newly transformed space designed to honor the past while welcoming the future.
Just in time for opening weekend of Guys & Dolls, the Renaissance Performing Arts Association has completed a major auditorium renovation featuring new seating, restored flooring, expanded accessibility improvements, and newly developed gallery seating areas throughout the historic venue.
The renovation represents one of the most significant milestones in the theatre’s Road to 100 initiative — a long-term effort dedicated to preserving the Renaissance Theatre’s legacy while preparing the landmark for the decades ahead.
For audiences attending Guys & Dolls, the experience begins before the curtain rises. The updated auditorium provides a refreshed environment while maintaining the character and history that have made the Renaissance a cultural cornerstone of Mansfield.
“This opening weekend is everything we have been working toward,” said Chelsie Thompson, President & CEO of the Renaissance Performing Arts Association. “The generosity of our donors, partners, and community champions made this renovation possible, and we are incredibly grateful. Because of their support, the Renaissance Theatre is ready to welcome audiences for generations to come.”
A Community Investment in the Future
The transformation of the auditorium was made possible through a combination of community generosity, early leadership investments, and support from the State of Ohio. More than half of the project funding was secured by spring 2026, helping move the renovation forward and allowing the work to be completed in time for the new production season.
The project also brought together local partners who helped make the vision a reality. During a preview event for supporters, Thompson recognized the contributions of Adena Corporation, J&B Acoustical, Spring Electric, and Matern Metal Works for their commitment to the renovation’s success and timely completion.
Their work reflects the broader community effort behind the project — a reminder that preserving a historic institution requires the support and dedication of many people working toward a shared goal.
Leaving a Lasting Legacy
The theatre’s A Seat in Our Story dedication campaign has also given community members the opportunity to become part of the Renaissance Theatre’s future. Through personalized engraved seat plaques, individuals, families, businesses, and organizations can create a lasting connection to the historic venue.
Although the auditorium renovation is complete, seat dedications remain available for those who want to celebrate a special memory, honor a loved one, or support the next chapter of the Renaissance Theatre’s story.

The newly renovated auditorium will welcome its first audiences during the August 1 opening of Guys & Dolls, which runs through August 9. The production marks more than the beginning of a new show — it represents a new era for a beloved Mansfield landmark.
