RICHLAND COUNTY, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW) — A major glass manufacturing facility in Richland County, previously slated to shut by the end of the year, will remain open and expand its workforce, local officials announced.
The reversal follows an intense collaborative effort between local economic leaders and state partners. After Vitro initially announced plans to close its Crestline plant, the Richland Area Chamber & Economic Development Council initiated immediate discussions with company leadership to explore alternatives.
“They are a big company that supports a lot of jobs here in our community, so we hated to hear of them closing, and we immediately worked to set up meetings with them to see if there was any turning it around,” said Jessica Gribben, CEO of the Richland Area Chamber & Economic Development.
A project team—comprising the Chamber, JobsOhio, the Ohio Department of Development, and Team NEO—worked to persuade Vitro to reinvest in the Crestline site rather than shifting resources to other domestic facilities.
According to a statement from Team NEO, the change in direction was driven by a combination of improving macroeconomic conditions and new business opportunities that prompted company decision-makers to reevaluate their domestic manufacturing footprint.
The outcome has exceeded initial expectations for the region. “Not only are they staying, but they’re actually adding jobs to their existing location,” Gribben said. “They started off committed to staying, and then it grew from there.”
Local residents have expressed relief and optimism regarding the news. Troy Pery, a community member, highlighted the significance of the reversal for the broader regional economy.
