The Wynford school district has decided to take things into its own hands as far as increasing the amount of funding it gets from state sources. Superintendent Steve Mohr announced that a committee was being formed in order to participate in the Ohio Department of Education’s Straight A Grant during his report to the Wynford School Board Monday night.

The $250 million grant poll is the largest grant that the ODE has ever given out at a single time. The ODE is looking for game-changing Ideas in how to advance education practices. School districts will be eligible for up to $5 million, though time is short with six weeks to develop ideas, and prepare a plan for grant eligibility

While time is short, Mohr feels Wynford may have a head start in putting together a plan.

“We had a Vision Committee put together a couple years ago where we really talked about such things,” Mohr said. “So obviously you are looking at technology. You are looking at blended learning. You are looking at flex scheduling. You are looking at the school calendar. You look into all those things in terms of how you are going to deliver education to kids.”

The school board  approved all personnel items on the agenda Monday night, which included hiring Ben Lash as boys eighth grade basketball coach, Jon Amicone as head baseball coach, and Todd Enders assSchool newspaper advisor, as well as yearbook advisor.
