BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Despite citizen protests and legal challenges to how the political process was used to purchase them, residents will soon see big changes in local waste collection as the city rolls out two new, high-tech garbage trucks and standardized collection bins.

The distribution of the new garbage cans is scheduled to begin next week, on September 21. With nearly 5,000 units to be delivered,
The city expects the process to take approximately four weeks to complete. There is no charge for the new cans, and each unit has been assigned a unique serial number for tracking purposes. Residents who receive their cans early are encouraged to begin using them immediately as their regular waste receptacles.
Guidelines for Residents
To ensure efficient collection, residents are asked to wheel their new cans to the curb on collection days. Please place the bins as close to the curb as possible to allow the truck’s automated arm to easily reach and lift the container.
Advanced Technology for Efficient Service
The city’s new fleet of garbage trucks is equipped with advanced camera systems designed to improve safety and operational efficiency. Similar to modern passenger vehicles that use backup cameras for parking, these trucks feature integrated camera systems to assist drivers in maneuvering the vehicle and operating the robotic collection arm.
These cameras provide the driver with a clear view of the container during the dumping process, allowing them to monitor the hatch door and confirm that each can is fully emptied before the arm is retracted. These upgrades are expected to streamline the collection process and provide more reliable service to the community.
