BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—United Way of North Central Ohio is announcing the expansion of its innovative community education model with the launch of a Community Hub School at Bucyrus High School this fall. Established in partnership with Bucyrus City Schools, this is the second Community Hub School to be announced by UWNCO for the upcoming school year; a similar Community Hub School pilot will also open at Marion City Schools’ Grant Middle School.
The Community Hub School and its Coordinator provide support, resources, and connections for students, staff, and families. “The beauty of the Community Hub School model is its flexibility. Each Community Hub tailors services to align with the specific priorities and demographics of its host district,” said Natalie Longmeier, CEO of United Way of North Central Ohio.
At Bucyrus High School, the Community Hub will reinforce the district’s focus on career-connected learning while integrating community resources and support to help eliminate barriers to student and family success. “The district recently lost a School & Family Support Coordinator to retirement,” Longmeier said. “Community Hub School services will replace the invaluable support that employee provided for students and staff, at no expense to the school.”
In collaboration with Bucyrus City Schools, and following an extensive interview process, United Way of North Central Ohio has selected Amy Holloway to lead the work at Bucyrus High School as Community Hub School Coordinator. “We were lucky to have a solid pool of qualified applicants,” Longmeier said. “Amy’s experience supporting students and families and her obvious passion for relationship-building brought her to the top for us. We’re happy to welcome her to our United Way team and know she’ll be an asset for the school district.”
As the Community Hub School Coordinator at Bucyrus High School, Holloway will serve as the central bridge between students, staff, and families and a network of regional social service providers and local businesses. She will be responsible for identifying student and family needs, coordinating support services, and fostering community partnerships that provide all students with equitable access to district-led career-readiness programming.
