BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Lauretta Schimmoler Museum is hosting its sixth annual Pancake Breakfast and Fly-in on Saturday, September 19th, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Port Bucyrus- Crawford County Airport
The pancake breakfast will take place from 8:00 a.m. to noon, where tickets cost $10 per person, and kids under 8 eat free.
There will also be a number of activities for attendees to enjoy throughout the day as well. Such as food trucks from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., a flea market, bounce houses, a car show, face painting, a corn box, and more.
There will also be Ford Tri-Motor rides starting at 9:00 a.m., with tickets costing $100 for adults and $75 for children.
The Kiddie Tractor Pull will also be taking place, with registration starting at 9:00 a.m. and the pull beginning at 10:00 a.m.
At 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, the Lauretta Monument Dedication will also take place.
“We’ll have this stage set up, and we’ll have this memorial. It’s 14 feet wide and about five feet high, and we’ve got the granite stones with Lauretta’s story on this. It’s like three separate pieces that sit beside each other,” said Fred Fischer, President of the board for the Lauretta Schimmoler Museum.
The monument honors Lauretta Schimmoler, an aviation pioneer who founded and managed Port Bucyrus, the first airport started and managed by a woman. She is also the founder of the Aerial Nursing Corps of America and is credited as the founder of flight nurses and medevac.
Fischer says that the pancake breakfast and fly-in is an important event to have because it allows for education on the airport and the recognition and historical significance of Lauretta Schimmoler.
“A lot of people don’t realize the asset that we have there as far as just the airport in and of itself, and then even more importantly, they don’t know all the things that Lauretta accomplished and what she did and what a contribution that is,” says Fischer.
Fischer also says it’s a great way to inspire not only the community but the younger generation as well.
“When you get out there, and you see all the fun the kids have, I mean it’s all bout the youth and inspiring them maybe to get involved in aviation,” says Fischer.
