MANSFIELD, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Ohio Woodland Stewards Program | Ohio State University Extension invites community members to its next Lunch & Learn program, Growing Culinary Mushrooms on Logs, on Tuesday, August 25. This interactive workshop will introduce participants to the rewarding process of cultivating gourmet mushrooms outdoors using hardwood logs.

During the hands-on session, attendees will learn the fundamentals of growing culinary mushrooms, including how to select appropriate logs, inoculate them with mushroom spawn, and care for them throughout the growing process. Each participant will drill, inoculate, and take home their own shiitake mushroom log to begin growing mushrooms at home.

The workshop is designed for gardeners, nature enthusiasts, and anyone interested in producing fresh, homegrown food in a sustainable and enjoyable way. No prior experience is necessary.

Registration and additional program details are available at woodlandstewards.osu.edu.

Participants are also encouraged to mark their calendars for the final 2026 Lunch & Learn program, Non-native Worms, taking place on October 21. The session will explore the impacts of invasive earthworms on Ohio’s forests and ecosystems and discuss ways landowners can help protect native woodlands.
