BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Crawford County Public Health is gearing up for a series of community events, including a free family fun day in April and a large-scale health care event in August.
Kate Siefert, with Crawford County Public Health, spoke on a local radio program about the upcoming events.
The health department will host a Family Fun Day on the first Saturday of April, which is April 6, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Trillium Event Center, located at 1630 E Southern Ave. The event, funded by a grant from the Ohio Children’s Trust Fund, aims to provide a free and fun experience for Crawford County families.
“Every dollar that we got in from this grant we’re putting towards resources and prizes and raffles and food and fun and games for families, for free, so they can come out to this event,” Siefert said.
The event will feature activities such as face painting, rock painting, and gardening demonstrations by OSU Extension Master Gardeners. Free ice cream from Mark’s Homemade Ice Cream and popcorn from the Salvation Army will also be available. Raffles will include bikes, wagons, children’s furniture, kitchen cutlery, and cookbooks.
In addition to the family fun day, Crawford County Public Health will host a farmers market starting in June. The market will feature local produce and will accept WIC and senior coupons. Heather Smith of Smith Acres Produce, the 2024 Partner of the Year for the health department, will be a vendor. The farmers market will be held on the last Thursday of June, July, August, and September at the health department’s parking lot.
Looking ahead to August, the health department will collaborate with the Ohio National Guard and the Ohio Department of Health to host GuardCare 2025 on August 9th and 10th. The event will provide free health care services, including dental exams and extractions, vision exams and prescription glasses made on-site, blood labs, mammograms, sports physicals, and immunizations.
“This is a great opportunity for our community and we’re hoping to serve around 1000 people for the various things we’re going to have,” Siefert said.
The event will be held at the Trillium Event Center and the Board of DD property, with additional parking provided by the Crawford County Fairgrounds. No appointments, identification, or insurance cards are required.
