MANSFIELD, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Habitat for Humanity of Richland & Crawford Counties has announced the opening of its application period for an ambitious affordable homeownership program, marking a significant expansion for the organization. Applications are being accepted through May 20, 2026.

The nonprofit plans to construct four new homes over the next 18 months—one in Richland County and three in Crawford County. This initiative represents a “historic moment” for the affiliate, according to Executive Director Aubri Them, as it scales its impact across both counties simultaneously.

“For the first time in years, we are expanding our impact across both Richland and Crawford Counties in a meaningful way,” Them said. “These homes will be thoughtfully designed with long-term stability in mind, balancing both form and function to create energy-efficient, sustainable spaces.”

Them, who brings two decades of residential interior design experience to the project, is collaborating with local architect and board member Matthew Stanfield of FiELD9: architecture to lead the construction phase.

The project is supported by early funding from The Crawford County Foundation and the Richland County Foundation. Additionally, Habitat is partnering with the Pioneer Career & Technology Center and other local trade programs to integrate community involvement and vocational training into the builds.

The program offers a zero-percent interest mortgage to qualified applicants. Eligibility is based on a demonstrated need for housing, the ability to repay the mortgage, and a commitment to “sweat equity” through volunteer hours and homeownership education.

Erin Stine, Board Chair, noted the organization’s clear vision for growth. “We have a deeply committed Board and a clear vision for growth, and we’re seeing that come to life through projects like this,” Stine said.

Interested parties can obtain applications at the Habitat office by calling (419) 524-8361, online at habitatofrcc.org, or via email at apply@habitatofrcc.org. The organization operates as an equal opportunity housing provider in accordance with Ohio Fair Housing laws.
