The Crawford County Board of Commissioners will look a little familiar when January rolls around. Not only did incumbent Doug Weisenauer retain his seat on the board by beating out Bucyrus City Councilman Dan Wirebaugh, but former commissioner Mo Ressallat will return to his old office.
Weisenauer ended Tuesday night’s General Election by soundly defeating Wirebaugh 12,043 to 5,572. Ressallat led the county over independent Jeff Teynor with 10,836 votes to 6,586.
“I’m humbled by their support,” Weisenauer said about the county voting him back in office. “I’m thankful that the people believe in me and want to give me another chance.”
Weisenauer’s most recent project with his fellow commissioners Jenny Vermillion and Steve Reinhard is the current work being done to the courthouse roof. He did not have any major plans for the future – other than getting the scaffolding down from the courthouse, he joked.
Weisenauer also got a chuckle out of the thought of working with Ressallat again.
“Mo and I get along great,” Weisenauer said. “I don’t think it will be a problem at all.”
It’s been a few years since Ressallat held sway over the county with Weisenauer and Vermillion, but he was looking forward to the work once again. He will be taking over the position that will be vacated by current commissioner Steve Reinhard.
“I’m elated and I want to thank you for the support,” Ressallat said. “I do my best for the county.”
Ressallat also noted the good working relationship he had with Weisenauer and everyone else in the courthouse.
“We worked in conjunction,” Ressallat said about his past experience. “It was always helpful with the budget. We had a good relationship with all the offices.”
The county recorder race was handily won by Julie Wells, who carried a significant lead throughout the night. Wells defeated Dawn Schnabel 11,072 to 6,339.
