BUCYRUS—Bucyrus City Council held its regular meeting Tuesday evening in Council Chambers. The city’s continued struggles to cover financial shortfalls put two important financial resolutions up to vote.
Council overwhelmingly voted against the reduction of the tax credit for out-of-town workers. Only councilmen Dan Wirebaugh and Terry Spiegel voted in favor of the tax credit reductions.
Many council members did not believe the reduction was fair to citizens who have been forced to seek employment outside of the city for a sustainable wage. Rather than target out-of-town workers to increase revenue, the council unanimously voted to put a levy on the May ballot that adds a 1/4% increase to the Safety Forces Levy.
In other council matters, Mayor Jeff Reser told the council that he hopes the Republican Central Committee will appoint a new Auditor by the end of January.
Reser also told the council that the infrastructure for the first phase of the Splash Pad is complete. Bids for the second phase will go out in February. Reser expects the project to be completed by June 1, 2023.
Council went into Executive Session to discuss ongoing litigation.
