GALION, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The City of Galion has officially announced the cancellation of the 2026 Oktoberfest, with city leaders opting to focus on revitalizing the festival for a return in 2027.

The decision was announced during the July 14, 2026, City Council meeting following an update on the event’s status.

The cancellation comes after the committee that managed the festival for the past several years announced it would no longer oversee the annual celebration.

In response, city administration spent the past week and a half vetting two entities that expressed interest in taking over the event’s organization. After reviewing both proposals and meeting with the interested parties, city officials determined it was not feasible to move forward with a 2026 festival.

City officials said the decision was made to ensure the long-term success of the tradition. By pausing the event for one year, the city plans to dedicate the necessary time and planning needed to deliver a bigger and better Oktoberfest beginning in 2027 and continuing into the future.
