Public service is a familiar role for Brian Carson, the newest member of the Galion City School District Board of Education. Appointed to fill a vacant seat on the board in January, Carson brings 25 years of private and public service to the district.
Carson and his wife, Holly, have lived in Galion since 1997 and have developed a strong sense of community. The couple, whose daughter Sophie is a sophomore at Galion High, has been very active in volunteering during their time in and around Galion. Board of Education service is nothing new to the Carson family, as Holly has previously served on the Galion St. Joseph’s Board of Education.
“I applied for the school board because I felt it was a good opportunity to become involved in making the schools better,” Carson said. “It’s important to our family, and our community, that we have a strong school system that provides a first class education for Galion children and their families.”
Since 2002, Brian has owned an insurance agency in Shelby. Prior to business ownership, he served 13 years as a Sergeant and Trooper with the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
“As a small business owner, Brian understands the need to work as a team, how to listen to concerns of the community and believes in positive contribution,” Board of Education President Jennifer Kuns said. “I feel that Brian will be a tremendous asset to the Galion City School District.
Carson graduated from Shelby High School and earned his Bachelor of Science in Criminology from The Ohio State University.
“I’m interested in working on improving and updating our sporting venues, and making sure we have a better relationship in terms of communication with our community,” Carson said. “I want to know what folks are concerned with and what they feel we need to do to make the schools better.”
