BUCYRUS—Dylan Ruth, 20, of Galion was arraigned via video in Crawford County Common Pleas Court.

Ruth is charged with two counts of pandering sexually-oriented material involving a minor, each a fourth-degree felony and each punishable with up to 18 months in prison.

Ruth is also charged with seven counts of pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor, each of those fifth-degree felonies are punishable with up to 12 months in prison.

Crawford County Common Pleas Court Judge Sean Leuthold entered a not guilty plea on Ruth’s behalf and appointed attorney Andrew Motter to represent him.

Judge Leuthold heard arguments from Prosecutor Matt Crall on behalf of the state and defense attorney Tom Nicholson on Ruth’s behalf. According to Crall, a tip was received from an internet task force after Ruth attempted to download a video to Facebook.

Crall told the court that two videos were found on Ruth’s phone. A one-minute video involved a woman performing sex acts on a four-year-old child. The other video was about a minute and a half long depicting a male involved in sex with a three to five-year-old child. Crall told the court the other photos were of nude children clearly under the age of 18. He noted there were no sexual acts in the photos.  Crall also said Ruth admitted allegations to police. Crall asked for a 45,000.00 bond.

Attorney Tom Nicholson pointed out that Ruth had no criminal record. He told the court that Ruth, who is employed in retail has been a tax-paying citizen.

“ I want to point out computers can be hacked and do things we did not intend for them to do. I don’t know if that’s the case but I want to point it out in general. We would ask for a substantially lower bond.” Nicholson said.

Judge Leuthold addressed the arguments; ” These are tough cases, the facts and circumstances around them are very troubling; sexually-oriented material involving a minor.”

Judge Leuthold said that the facts and circumstances are overriding factors. Leuthold set Ruth’s bond at $250,000. As a special condition of his bond, Ruth is not permitted to have any access to the internet.
