While the city of Bucyrus will continue on, it paused for a moment of remembrance Saturday as Mayor Roger Moore was laid to rest.

The funeral service for the late mayor began at 11 a.m. at the Bucyrus Nazarene Church with Pastor Mike Corwin giving the invocation prayer.
Officiant Gary Schiefer eulogized Moore at the service.

“He loved Bucyrus,” Shiefer said. “He did more for our city in a short time than many of our previous mayors. He worried about others more than he did himself.”

Shiefer recalled working with Moore for the Relay for Life event and the years of commitment that the two had put in together for the fundraising event.

“As an auctioneer he went the extra mile to get the most to benefit those the auction would benefit,” Shiefer explained.
Shiefer told the crowd of Moore’s love for his family and friends.

“Nothing could compare the love he had for his wife Fonda, he had a special live for her,” Shiefer said.

At the end of the service Schiefer reminded everyone to be thankful for those that you love.

“If you have one or more friends that you love, tell them,” Shiefer said. “I lost a great friend Tuesday that I won’t be able to talk with on this earth again.”

Shiefer closed his eulogy saying there will never be another Roger Moore.

“Amazing Grace’ played over the church’s speakers as mourners were released from the service.

Following the service people lined the streets of Bucyrus as the funeral procession filed past on the way to Oakwood Cemetary.

“He was a good mayor and it is sad that this happened,” Charlene Markley recalled. “He was one of the friendliest people; he would always say. ‘Hi how are you today.’”
