MANSFIELD, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Ohio State Highway Patrol will conduct an OVI checkpoint in Richland County Saturday evening to deter and intercept impaired drivers.

The checkpoint, funded through federal grant funds, is part of the Patrol’s ongoing effort to reduce crashes caused by impaired driving. The location will be announced Saturday morning.

Lt. Jason Murfield, commander of the Mansfield Post, said Ohio recorded 540 OVI-related fatal crashes that killed 593 people last year, based on provisional data.

State troopers make approximately 25,000 OVI arrests annually.

Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and never drive impaired.

The location of the checkpoint will be announced Saturday morning.
