BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Bucyrus Board of Education approved new staff hires and reviewed district communications during its June meeting.
The district is reporting a strong financial position, stating that revenues are currently $450,000 ahead of the forecast, with expenses remaining in line with projected budgets.
The district is moving forward with J&F Construction to complete renovations in the building that houses the board office. The project involves removing lockers and sinks and installing new cabinetry.
The board approved Lesley Hayman as a PK–5 STEAM teacher, and McKenzie Stimmell as a 5th‑grade social studies teacher.
The board hired Ashlee Watkins as the BSS school nurse, effective August 12.
A contract with Marco Photography was approved for the 2026–27 school year for Bucyrus Secondary School, replacing LifeTouch in Galion, which announced it was permanently closing.
Superintendent Bob Britton gave an update on Allerton Hill Communications, a public relations and communications consulting firm specializing in communications for school districts and public entities.
In the update provided by Allerton Hill, survey results showed that of the families who participated, 57% rated the district 4/5 stars on childhood education progress.
Britton said he will be working with Allerton Hill and Apptegy to ensure that information is not being sent to buildings it does not pertain to, and to create a calendar with all district events that can be shared on the school’s social media pages.
The board voted 4–1 to renew the agreement with Allerton Hill Communications for $5,500 per month, an increase from the previous agreement.
The lone “no” vote came from Christa Graves, who expressed concern and dissatisfaction with the price increase, noting that the district would not be receiving additional services in return.
The board approved two overnight/extended student trips: BHS band camp at Camp Lancaster from July 20–24, and the High School Show Choir (Players) Summer Camp from July 13–17.
The board will hold a special meeting on June 30, and the next regular board meeting is July 27.
