GALION, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW) — The Galion City Health Department is gearing up to host a completely free Family Fun Day on Saturday, August 8th, offering local residents a budget-friendly afternoon of entertainment, resources, and community bonding before the new school year begins.
The event will take place at East Park in Galion from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Designed to give back to the community and offer “one last hurrah” before kids head back to the classroom, the festival-style gathering will feature a wide range of attractions suitable for all ages.
Event Highlights & Activities
Attendees can look forward to a full lineup of games, food, and safety demonstrations:
- Attractions & Games: Bounce houses, face painting, inflatable axe throwing, a dunk tank, and a bean bag toss.
- Free Lunch: Complimentary hot dogs, chips, cupcakes, and lemonade.
- Hands-on Tours & Safety: On-site school bus and fire truck tours accompanied by educational safety presentations.
- School Supplies & Giveaways: A limited supply of free backpacks and school supplies for students.
- Raffles: A bike raffle and major prize drawings for Galion residents and employees who complete the health department’s online strategic planning survey.
The park’s popular splash pad will also be open during its regular hours starting at 1:00 p.m., providing a great way to cool off during the afternoon festivities.
100% Community-Funded
Event organizer Abby Volk emphasized that no local tax dollars are being used to fund Family Fun Day, nor is the event serving as a cash generator for the city.
“Local tax dollars are not being used to pay for this event. There’s no cost involved to the public and there’s also no profit for us,” Volk explained during a recent interview on Community Spotlight. “Admission is free, food is free, activities are free, and giveaways are free, all because of generous local donors and businesses.”
Sponsors and partners helping make the event possible include Avita Home Health and Hospice, the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Ross Medical, Three Bean Coffee House, Phil’s Deli, Addie’s Helping Hand, Cleaning by Carrie, Galion City Schools Transportation Division, Galion Kiwanis, Caleb’s at DK’s, Galion Fire Department, City of Galion, YWCA Parent Services, North Central Ohio Media Group, White Life Behavioral Health, Old Dogs Coffee Culture, Myzick Miller and Company, Quality Inn Sweets and Conference Center in Bellville, Crawford County Community Action, and The Sweet Bake Company.
