BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW) — One of the Northern 10 Athletic Conference’s fiercest rivalries reaches a historic milestone Friday night as Bucyrus and Wynford square off in the 50th edition of the Copper Kettle game.

For the Bucyrus Redmen, the matchup is an opportunity to break a quarter-century drought and bring the trophy back to Bucyrus for the first time since 1997.

“This is why the guys in red put on the jersey every year—to beat the guys in blue,” said Bucyrus senior captain Paten Deskins. “It’s huge, and it would be incredible to get a win on the 50th anniversary of the first game.”

Deskins.noted that containment and big plays will be critical for the Redmen against Wynford’s ground-heavy offense. Offensively, Bucyrus looks to leverage its passing game and scramble drill execution led by quarterback Isaac Makeever.

On the other side of the field, the Wynford Royals are determined to defend their long-standing dominance and extend a 28-game winning streak in the series to 29.

“To me, it means keeping the streak going,” said Wynford senior captain and homecoming king Deegan Lutz. “We just don’t want to be the class that lets it up. We need to keep our composure, execute, and run the ball like our lives depend on it.”

Kickoff for the 50th Copper Kettle game is set for Friday night.
