BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Baker’s Pizza is hosting a spaghetti dinner fundraiser to benefit Cayley, a 19-year-old Bucyrus resident currently undergoing treatment for Ewing’s sarcoma. The event is meant to help ease the financial burden of treatment while showing Cayley and her family just how much support they have behind them.
A 2025 graduate of Bucyrus City Schools, Cayley now attends The Ohio State University at Marion, where she’s majoring in social work. She says the people closest to her are what keep her grounded through everything.
“I enjoy spending time with my dad and my sister, they are my best friends,” Cayley shared.
This is not Cayley’s first time facing cancer. She was first diagnosed in 2023 during her sophomore year of high school after her left lung collapsed. From there, she went through multiple surgeries and more than a year of chemotherapy. After nearly two years in remission, a routine CT scan in December revealed the cancer had returned.
Since then, the journey has come with both physical and emotional challenges, along with the stress that can come with ongoing treatment.
“The week after chemo I can barely leave the house due to the severity,” she said. “On top of that, I decided to continue college during this time, so between trying to juggle coursework, dealing with insurance, and barely being able to get out of bed, it gets really stressful.”
Even with everything she’s balancing, Cayley continues to push forward, staying in school and returning to work when she feels up to it.
That job at Baker’s Pizza has become more than just a place to work.
“I have never felt so appreciated and loved in a work setting until I worked there,” Cayley said. “I’ve made so many friends. The drivers especially are like family to me.”
She said being able to go back, even for a short shift, gives her a sense of normalcy during an otherwise difficult time.
“After a hard chemo round, when I feel good, I can walk in there for a shift and have a good day,” she said. “That taste of normalcy means more to me than anyone could ever know.”
The idea for the fundraiser came directly from the Baker’s team—something Cayley says she’ll never forget.
“I never even had to ask Baker’s for help, they came to me and offered,” she said. “That’s how truly amazing they are.”
While Cayley and her family aren’t ones to usually ask for help, she hopes people understand how overwhelming the financial side of treatment can be.
“The financial burden that chemo puts on people is more than most realize,” she said. “We’re still trying to catch up from the last treatment, and it’s a struggle.”
Funds raised from the spaghetti dinner will go toward Cayley’s college tuition, with the remaining support helping her family work through the debt built up during both rounds of treatment.
Above all, Cayley says she’s incredibly grateful for the support.
“I want everyone to know that I am beyond thankful for everything,” she said. “It means a lot more than people realize.”
The upcoming fundraiser April 28, 2026, at Bakers Pizza, gives the community a chance to come together, show support, and make a real difference for a young woman determined to keep moving forward.
