Sheriff’s Office personnel awarded for assistance during power outage

Crawford County Sheriff Scott Kent announced Friday that several members of the Sheriff’s Office were awarded commendation awards for their part during the power outage at the Sheriff’s Office on July 10, 2013.

“I found myself in a unique position when the power went out. The back-up generator started up, and then failed as rain was pulled into the engine through the air filter,” Kent said in a press release. “The battery backup supplied emergency power to the building for approximately one hour, before the batteries were drained.”

The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office received assistance from the Crawford County Emergency Management Agency, the Bucyrus Fire Department, the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office, and the Buckeye State Sheriffs’ Association.

“I received the most assistance from the employees here at the Sheriff’s Office,” said Kent. “Many of them stayed over past their normal scheduled work hours, or came in early to help out. With their assistance, we were able to maintain security of the jail, respond to calls, and maintain radio contact through alternate means.”

Kent offered further praise to his deputies. “The staff here showed dedication not only to this office, but also to the citizens of Crawford County.”
