They came through in cars, on bikes, and on foot, but most importantly the people of Bucyrus came through for the Bucyrus Fire Department’s annual toy drive.
For about three hours Saturday morning the Mansfield Street Station was converted into a drive-through drop-off center accepting donations from the kind-hearted. Collecting six tables worth of toys Saturday, the Bucyrus Fire Department also collected money for coats as well as canned goods.
Firefighter Greg Hershey thanked the people of Bucyrus for their efforts in helping the Fire Department out with the toy drive
“I just wanted to send a quick thank you to everyone that come through for the toy drive, and donated,” Hershey said. “It is very much appreciated, we are very thankful as the fire department to do this for our community.”
In previous years past the firefighters raised around $700 to help local families. This year their goal was $1,400 in order to purchase 27 coats for kids in need. When they closed up shop shortly after noon they not only met their goal, but had exceeded it.
Even before the Toy Drive had concluded, Hershey declared it a success.
“It has been a successful toy drive we got a good variety toy drive for boys and girls both, and we have been doing something different this year purchasing the coats this year for the 27 kids, and it looks like we are going to be able to reach that goal,” Hershey said.
The toys and coats will be handed off to Children and Family Services at 9 a.m. Monday.
