BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—An effort to overturn a countywide ban on large-scale solar projects in Crawford County has failed, with a petition to put the issue on the November ballot falling short of the required signatures. The ban prohibits solar facilities of 50 megawatts or larger.
Wombat Solar, a company with a local presence for nearly two years, said the county’s decision is unusual under Ohio’s Senate Bill 52, which typically grants townships the choice to opt-in or out of such bans.
Despite the setback, Wombat Solar’s Director of Development Wes Smith and Director of Community Relations Leah Cordy said the company will not abandon its commitments to the community. They highlighted the company’s continued work in the area, including educational presentations and a quarterly grant program for local nonprofits.
“We really just want to have honest, truthful conversations with people instead of lies and hate being spread,” Cordy said.
The company’s representatives encouraged supporters to visit their office in downtown Bucyrus to learn how they can get involved.
