FAIRFIELD COUNTY, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW) — A driver arrested following a fatal crash on U.S. Route 33 in Fairfield County over the weekend was reportedly living in the United States illegally, according to Fairfield County Sheriff Alex Lape.
The crash occurred Sunday at approximately 6:15 p.m.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, 33-year-old Alvaro Uriber-Gonzalez of Columbus was traveling eastbound on U.S. 33 when he crossed into the westbound lanes and collided with a vehicle driven by 23-year-old Cameron Lyon of Caledonia.
Lyon died as a result of the crash.
Lyon had recently become engaged in July during a family vacation to Rhode Island. He and his fiancée had also been working together to renovate their family farmhouse.
In addition to his personal accomplishments, Lyon had recently begun his first teaching position at Crestline Exempted Village School District, where he taught social studies to fifth- and sixth-grade students.
Lyon was also a proud Eagle Scout.
The crash has left family, friends, students and members of the community mourning his loss.
A fundraiser has been established to help support Lyon’s fiancée as she continues her recovery following the crash.
The investigation into the fatal collision remains ongoing.
