BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Jerald Frazier II, a 61-year-old resident of Galion, appeared in Crawford County Common Pleas Court on Wednesday afternoon, where he pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted murder.
The charges are linked to an incident in Galion that escalated into a four-hour standoff with law enforcement.
According to Crawford County Prosecutor Matt Crall, Frazier’s actions instilled significant fear in the local community after he allegedly shot two individuals residing in his home and held another person hostage.
The incident, a distressing 911 call was made by one of the shooting victims, who reported being shot while gunfire could be heard in the background.
The victims, who had sought refuge indoors at a trailer located behind 941 East Walnut St. due to inclement weather, found themselves in a life-threatening situation.
Crawford County law enforcement mobilized a significant response, with approximately 12 officers on the scene, including the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office and the Strategic Response Team (SRT). The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Bucyrus post also assisted with specialized training in hostage negotiations. Every available Galion Police Officer responded to the scene. The prosecutor was also on scene. The ODNR was on site because animals were in the home.
Following the plea, Crawford County Common Pleas Court Judge Sean Leuthold sentenced Frazier to 20 to 25 years in prison. Frazier has been in custody since his arrest in mid-January and will receive credit for time served in jail.
