BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Crawford Park District is offering a series of engaging winter nature programs for nature lovers of all ages. From tree identification hikes to hands-on animal feeding experiences, these events provide an opportunity to connect with the outdoors during the winter months.

Winter Tree ID Hike
On Saturday, December 7, at 10 a.m., join Crawford Park District Naturalist Donald for a Winter Tree ID Hike at Heckert Nature Preserve, located at 1601 State Route 19 in Bucyrus. The hike will focus on identifying trees without their leaves, pointing out the distinctive winter characteristics of various species. It’s a great opportunity for nature enthusiasts to learn how to identify trees even when they’re not in full bloom.

Holiday Decorations
On Sunday, December 8, from 1 to 3 p.m., head to Lowe-Volk Park, located at 2401 State Route 598, for a festive holiday wreath-making workshop. Using pine boughs, evergreen cones, ribbons, and more, participants will create their own holiday decorations. The Crawford Park District will provide materials, but attendees are encouraged to bring additional items such as their favorite ribbons or natural decorations to personalize their wreaths.

Feeding Day
On Monday, December 9, at 5 p.m., join Crawford Park District Naturalist Lisa at Lowe-Volk Park for Feeding Day. Participants will help prepare meals for the park’s resident animals, including box turtles, aquatic turtles, snakes, and even a tarantula. The event provides a behind-the-scenes look at how the park cares for its wildlife and gives attendees the chance to actively participate in the feeding process.

Face to Face: Salamanders
On Wednesday, December 11, at 5 p.m., Lowe-Volk Park will host “Face to Face: Salamanders,” where Naturalist Donald will introduce participants to the salamanders that live at the park’s Nature Center. From the giant North American salamander to the colorful axolotl, this interactive program will explore the unique lives and lifecycles of these fascinating creatures.
