NEVADA, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Sportsmen’s Stop, located in Nevada, is a shop owned by father-and-son duo Rob and Levi Abbott. They purchased the shop nearly ten years ago after a customer they had met through their auction business was retiring.
“When he retired, he gave us an opportunity to buy his inventory and the name and business license and stuff like that, and we ended up purchasing it from him and moving it to our location, the same location where we had the auction house ten years ago,” says Levi Abbott.
Since then, Sportsmens Stop has managed to grow tremendously.
“It’s been a long ten years on just really growing from where we first started,” says Abbott. “We have a huge shop, were still just a small mom and pop shop. It’s really just me and my father that run the shop, but we have an extremely large inventory, one of the biggest inventories in the area.”
Abbott, whose passion has always been hunting and the outdoors, says that being able to own the store in this community has been amazing.
“It’s been a very humbling moment opening the store and a perfect fit for me. I’ve been hunting and in the outdoors since I was seven years old, so it’s been very exciting building up the store and getting everything, and the support we get from the community is amazing,” says Abbott.
He says being able to see friends and family, old teachers, and people from the community come in and support the shop has been great.
Sportsmen’s Stop has several products and services for hunting and shooting needs. They offer firearms, suppressors, archery, and a full-service archery shop for bow repair, tuning, and more. In the shop, they also house an indoor archery range and an indoor gun range for customers.
Now, Abbott and his father are preparing for the fall hunting season. He says they are starting to receive all of the inventory they ordered back in January in preparation for this time of year, and they are beginning to come out of the slow season as a result of the upcoming hunting season.
He says he is excited for the upcoming season because he loves hearing customers’ hunting stories and can sit and talk with them all day.
Abbott says the plans for the business are to continue to grow and expand; he also hopes to eventually add fishing supplies into the business for customers. He says the one thing he would like potential customers to know is just how vast their inventory is and that when they visit the shop they are going to get a personal experience.
“You’re going to get that personal experience here, you know someone that cares about you and wants you to have the best success for your hunting season. Whether it’s a personal protection gun or whatever it is, we offer any assistance that we can in any way for all our customers,” says Abbott.
