All along the square of Bucyrus on Friday afternoon posters were displayed by many reading, “STOP FOR LUNCH PROCEEDS BENEFITTING FRIENDS OF CRAWFORD PARK.” And if that wasn’t eye catching enough, two of the “poster advertisers” were the infamous Tigger and his new sidekick, no not Pooh Bear, a Minion from Despicable Me.
Taking place between 11 am to 2 pm Friday afternoon, the South of the Square Block Rally, benefited the Friends of the Crawford Park District. Many area businesses set up tables outside their shops. Many chances for door prizes and games for kids pulled in the crowd. From the ever-popular duck game outside of Norton’s Flowers to the free snow cones that Homecare Matters were giving away, kids were happy to be able to participate in all of the fun.
The Plymale family came to the out to the event to enjoy the festivities. Kids Liz, Hannah, and Levi said they enjoy everything about the Block Rally, but one was quick to mention they enjoyed getting the food. The children’s mom, Erin commented, “Well we live out in the country, so we enjoy coming in and seeing everything in town, and the food is good.”
Once visitors were ready for a good meal, they could walk on over to the hub of the food area, centered in Family Video’s parking lot. On a donation basis, they could enjoy food consisting of hot dogs, bratwursts, chips, a cookie, and a drink. The proceeds of the donations went toward the Friends of the Crawford Park District.
Besides all of the goodies and food to enjoy, many businesses were able to advertise many of their products and deals.
U Be Dazzled, which now has two locations in town, loved being out amongst all of the action. When asking an employee of U Be Dazzled what their favorite part of the Block Party is for the business she commented, “Just being effective within the community and getting our name out there as well as different products. But it’s nice to know your neighbors too, so definitely just a community type event that is perfect for a small town and good for businesses.”
Wheels & Deals Cookin’ for a Cause recipe books were also being sold for $10 each. They said that proceeds of the books went toward the mentally disabled. The Recipe books were $10.
With all of the activities, food, and fun sidewalk sales that took place the entire community thoroughly had a wonderful time.
