In a situation of financial good news and bad news, Treasurer Ryan Cook reported that the Bucyrus City Schools deficit spending is down 75 percent from the 2012 fiscal year at the school’s Board of Education meeting Tuesday.
Cook revealed that the school suffered a $321,000 shortfall in the fiscal year of 2013, which is down from the $1.2 million shortfall that Bucyrus City schools suffered in 2012.
Cook explained the drop saying, “Through the school board’s decisions, budget reductions, concessions and negotiations the school was able to save $900,000”
Bucyrus Secondary School Principal Matthew Henderson revealed that Bucyrus’ letter grade in the state’s new local school report card will be a D. Henderson explained that the Bucyrus school district met 13 of the 26 indicators which would earn a letter grade of D. Under the old rating system Bucyrus would have received an effective rating.
Superintendent Kevin Kimmel explained the change in the report card saying, “The new local new report card with the changes from the state will be coming out here at the end of August, and what the state is attempting to do is shift the report card into a letter grade going forward.”
“We are going to spend some more time at our annual State of the Schools Address which is scheduled for Monday, September 9 at 7 PM at the secondary building. We will be introducing that new local report card to the community that night so if folks are interested in learning more about the new report card they are invited to attend the State of the Schools,” Kimmel continued.
Bucyrus welcomed secondary school art teacher Michael Striker at Tuesday night’s meeting. Striker who is a Galion graduate comes to the school from New London Local School District.
The next regular Bucyrus City Schools meeting will be held on August 22 at 7 PM in the Lincoln Administrative Building.
