BUCYRUS—A longtime new and used car dealership in town is under new management after being sold six months ago.
Chevrolet of Bucyrus is now operating the former Mathews Chevrolet Buick, the family-owned dealership at 1885 Marion Road. The sale went through July 26, 2022, according to Tyler Smith, who has taken over as the store’s general manager.
“We kind of operate all our GM stores the same,” said Smith, who is in his fourth year with the automotive group. “We bring in our culture and our ideas, but we keep all the employees. We believe that people who have been here deserve a shot to stay.”
Chevrolet of Bucyrus, Smith said, has since dropped the Buick line. But the 30,000-square-foot facility carries a full inventory of Chevy cars, SUVs, and trucks, as well as certified pre-owned vehicles and a complete service department.
“We service every make and model, but we naturally specialize in all GM products,” Smith said. “If we don’t have a certain vehicle, chances are one of the other five stores does, so we can definitely get it here quickly, if not the same day.”
Chevrolet of Bucyrus, Smith said, is affiliated with a larger dealership that also owns and operates locations in Wooster, Mt. Vernon, Millersburg, Bedford, and Willoughby, Ohio.
Another operation, he said, is based in the village of Clinton, Michigan.
New vehicles are arriving daily, Smith said, and the showroom was remodeled in 2017 to reflect new branding launched by the Detroit-based automotive manufacturer. “We just kind of want to expand our service reach, our parts reach, and our car reach.”
The Bucyrus store has 25 employees. Moe Mustafa is the sales manager, while Sharon Such is the service director. Hours are Monday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“We’ve grown and continue to grow,” Smith said. “We’re just excited to get a full year under our belt. We’re just trying to support our community and help the local town out and be everybody’s go-to place for automotive needs.”
