BUCYRUS–A roofing company is making the switch from shingles to other key services as winter looms for North Central Ohio residents.

Roofsmith Restoration, already known for installing premium asphalt shingles manufactured by Owens Corning, is now equipped to do gutter replacements and blown-in insulation services, according to project manager Jesse Groves.

For a roofing company to offer services like this kind of sets us apart,” said Groves, a 2000 Bucyrus graduate who joined the Akron-based firm this year. “It’s basically what can you do today to guarantee you can save yourself some money.”

The company, Groves said, offers a maintenance-free gutter system called Klean Gutter Guard, which slides up under the shingles and connects to the roof, matching the pitch.
Copper fibers on the gutter guards also kill algae-forming bacteria, he said.

A well-maintained gutter and downspout system is crucial, Groves said. “It’s going to keep everything out, including birds. People don’t realize what a clogged gutter can do to their home. It can cause some major problems for your home down the road.”

Groves said Roofsmith Restoration is the only company in Ohio authorized to install the patented system, which features a significantly larger filtrating area. “It’s honestly a flawless system. The feedback from homeowners who’ve gotten it is amazing.”

Roofsmith Restoration’s team of “roofsmiths” is also equipped to help residential customers keep their homes warm in the winter and cool in the summer with blown-in insulation, another product manufactured by Owens Corning, Groves said.

About 85 percent of homes are under-insulated, Groves said. “The key selling point is energy costs since 60-percent of energy loss in your home is through the ceiling and attic. The more insulation you have in the attic space, the more energy savings.”

To meet code, Groves recommends a 13-1/2-inch layer of insulation, but a better system is available with 19 inches. For a larger price tag, the company places a radiant barrier developed by NASA over the insulation as an extra cushion against the elements.

“The tell-tale sign of when you know you need insulation is when your furnace is running all the time, even on 40-degree days,” Groves said. “My goal is to help homeowners find issues before it becomes an issue to them.”

The company, founded in 2009, has expanded its locations to Cleveland, Canton, Cincinnati, and Nashville, Tenn. For free estimates and inspections, contact Groves at 740-815-1176.
