I am writing in response to Mr. Fischer’s question in the article about Misstatements. His question was (more importantly, what kind of person is opposed to parks?)

I as one of the Naysayers would like to clarify that we are not against a park as long as our city tax dollars are not involved, which we as naysayers do fully comprehend that no city tax dollar is to be used, also we Naysayers understand that any park is good for a community.

We, Naysayers, are the type of people who use common sense or facts as other people call it.

FACT 1.   Location, you could have not picked the worst place to put a park. Not only in a hospital zone, Floodplain and Floodway It is also in the path of three state highways 4 / 19 / 98 /.

Schines Art Park is located in a 25-mile-an-hour zone and has three traffic lights to control that speed in both directions in that area.

This Naysayer has lived in that area from Perry Street to Irving and from that point, it turns into a Dragway at all hours of the day and night.

FACT 2. The City of Bucyrus, It was stated that the city of Bucyrus has no involvement in this, (The Mayor’s words not mine) Ok let’s clarify that, Maybe none of our tax dollar is being handed out to the proposed park but there is something that is being handed out to you and that is the city’s time and authority to change a zoned area for your convenience.

Before the land was purchased the Norton Bicentennial, Inc. should have done their research and should have known that a park could not be built there. But that was Ok, The NBI is now asking our city for help ! ! !   I as a Naysayer I see ethics being violated.

FACT 3. What we need.   We need improvement to the parks we have. HERE IS AN IDEA that you stated that you wanted Mr. Fischer Why didn’t you request to put the park to be put in Harmon field which already has a playground that is in need of improvement? There is plenty of ground to build whatever you desire and plenty of parking space and privacy and you can still take pictures of your park underwater there just as easy.

Your Naysayer,

Jim Richardson
