UPDATE

As of 11:00 a.m. 7/6/26, the evacuation in Bucyrus has been canceled, and residents are free to return per EMA. 

BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Crews from Norfolk Southern are actively working to clear the derailed train cars at Whetstone Street. 

As a safety measure, an evacuation radius of ¼ mile remains in effect, though officials assure the community that there is no immediate threat. Currently, none of the railcars are leaking any substances.

Local authorities estimate that Whetstone Street will reopen to traffic within the next 36 hours. Residents are advised to avoid the area while the cleanup efforts are ongoing.
