New signs posted at the intersection of Holmes Center and Co. Rd. 330 will hopefully make travel safer during busy school hours.

The Wynford school district applied for a school zone extension through the state. According to Crawford County Engineer Mark Baker, the school zone has been extended to the east side of the intersection and to the south side on Nevada-Wynford Rd.

The extension to the school zone now includes 20 mph speed limit signs posted at the intersection. The speed limit should be adhered to whenever there is activity at the school.

Baker added that the signs feature blinking lights that will be active during the school’s busiest hours: from 7 – 9 a.m. and 2:30 – 4 p.m. He cautioned, however, that even if the lights weren’t blinking does not mean that motorists shouldn’t abide by the speed limit during school hours.

The extension of the school zone came about when Wynford parents started petitioning for a safer intersection after another accident occurred there last winter.
