GALION – A new coffee shop in the heart of downtown is brewing up specialty beverages for customers craving a caffeine fix.

The Three Bean Coffee House, 125 Harding Way East, officially opened May 1. Owner Crystal Ebner is the barista and a familiar face behind the counter of the establishment because she’s worked there when it was a candy store and a coffee house.

“This tended to be the natural transition for me and for our family as a whole,” said Ebner, who since 2016 has worked for the owners of the Candi Bar, the Willow Coffee Shop, and most recently Beca House. “People know me and are comfortable with me.”

Ebner still serves gourmet coffee produced by Beca House, an Upper Sandusky original. Each cup is freshly roasted, and available hot, cold, or frozen in a variety of flavors, she said, including Buckeye, Salted Caramel Butterscotch, and a Three Bean Espresso blend, for which the shop is named.

The shop’s name, Ebner said, is also derived from her three children, “the beans” who inspired her to create signature drinks. Green “T” Frappe is named for son Theo, while older daughters Ruth and Lily prompted Ru’s Red Velvet Frappe and Lily’s Lavender Lemonade.

Blackberry Latte has been the newest blend – and the beverage of choice – since opening day, Ebner said, along with Coconut White Mocha and other varieties of mochas and lattes.
Husband Ted Ebner and the children also help run the family business.

Three Bean Coffee House whips up hot chocolate and fruit smoothies too, with featured flavors like Paradise Colada, and offers milk alternatives in beverages for a small upcharge.
Muffins, cookies, and pastries are available for dine-in or to grab on the go, she said.

Much of the décor and seating from the previous coffee shop is intact, she said, however, Three Bean’s hours have been extended to also include Sundays. A rear entrance with additional parking is available out back. “We really want this to be a place that people can just come in, a welcoming and comfortable place.”

Although Ted Ebner grew up outside of Galion, the couple didn’t move back to town until 2003.
Now, the family is engrained in the community they call home and focused on giving the business an extra “jolt” with weekly specials and online ordering.

“It’s been great.
Business has been fantastic,” Ebner said. “It’s very humbling, the response from the community. People have been wonderful. We’re just so lucky.”

Three Bean Coffee is open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the weekends.
