CRAWFORD COUNTY, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Motorists traveling through Crawford County should prepare for ongoing traffic shifts, ramp closures, and single-lane restrictions as the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) pushes forward with several regional highway improvement initiatives.
The largest disruption stems from the multi-year U.S. Route 30 bridge replacement project just west of State Route 98. Crews are working to completely replace the east and west structures spanning the Norfolk Southern Railroad. Traffic has been transitioned into a new pattern utilizing median crossovers, keeping a single 11-foot lane open in each direction on the westbound side of the highway while crews construct the new eastbound lanes.
As part of these continuing impacts, the U.S. 30 eastbound exit ramp to State Route 98 is undergoing a 120-day closure to facilitate bridge reconstruction. Motorists needing to access State Route 98 are being directed onto a designated detour: continue eastbound on U.S. 30 past the construction zone to the County Road 330/Bucyrus exit, turn left onto County Road 330, and reenter the highway via the U.S. 30 westbound ramp, following it back to the State Route 98 Plymouth Street exit.
ODOT officials project the eastbound exit ramp will reopen on Thursday, September 17, 2026. While that specific ramp remains blocked, all other intersection ramps are expected to stay open for the remainder of this construction season. The entire bridge replacement project carries an final estimated completion date of August 2027.
In addition to the major work on U.S. 30, driver delays should be anticipated on two other state corridors due to resurfacing efforts:
- State Route 4: Pavement repair operations stretching from the Bucyrus city corporation limits north to the Seneca County line will necessitate single-lane closures. Flaggers will be on-site to maintain and direct traffic through the active work zones. The estimated completion date is September 2026.
- State Route 96: Similar pavement repairs will take place from State Route 602 to the Richland County line. This stretch will also be reduced to a single lane at various times, with traffic flow managed by flaggers. Work is scheduled to wrap up in September 2026.
All scheduled construction activities are weather-permitting and subject to change. Drivers are urged to exercise extra caution, reduce speeds, and watch for orange barrels and construction personnel across all three work zones.
