Joe Walsh, a long-time associate of Ohio Mutual, has been appointed to fill the newly-created position of Assistant Vice President of Corporate Risk Management for Ohio Mutual Insurance Group.
In his new role, Walsh will consolidate management of several key areas previously spread throughout the organization. His primary responsibility will be to administer the company’s reinsurance program – in addition, he will manage the company’s enterprise risk management strategy and policies, oversee the company’s corporate insurance, and ensure ongoing corporate risk compliance. He will also join the company’s senior management team, reporting to VP of Product Management Dave Grove.
“Joe has built a strong set of analytical and administrative skills that, when added to his breadth of risk management experience, will enable him to excel in this key position,” said Ohio Mutual President and CEO Jim Kennedy. “This new role is the intersection of Joe’s experience and natural abilities with a set of related vital organizational needs.”
Walsh first joined Ohio Mutual in 1988 as a personal lines underwriter. In 1994, he began a 20-year focus on growing and managing Ohio Mutual’s market-leading farm lines products. In 2008, he began to develop knowledge and understanding of the company’s reinsurance program, for which he assumed lead status in January, 2013. Walsh has a degree in finance from the University of Akron, earned his Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation in 1995, and also has earned the CIC, ARe, AIS, and API professional designations.
