GALION, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—A two-story residence at 6135 Brandt Road was declared a total loss following a massive structure fire that drew a significant multi-agency emergency response.
Fire crews were dispatched to the residence after reports of a fully involved structure fire. Upon arrival, emergency responders confirmed the home was completely engulfed in flames. While no human occupants were home at the time of the blaze, officials confirmed that four dogs died in the incident.
Chief Pennington assumed command of the scene as firefighters from multiple jurisdictions worked to bring the fire under control. The response included mutual aid from Jefferson Township, Whetstone and Liberty Township, which provided critical tanker support to establish a water shuttle. Crestline crews were also brought in to provide station coverage for fire and medical emergencies.
Tactical operations focused on a defensive attack to contain the blaze. Firefighters utilized an aerial ladder for an initial knockdown and deployed multiple 1¾-inch handlines, including a compressed air foam system (CAFS), which officials noted was highly effective in suppressing the fire.
Throughout the operation, crews maintained personnel accountability and rotated teams to ensure safety. The American Red Cross was called to the scene to provide support and assistance to the displaced family.
By the time the fire was brought under control, the residence and vehicles on the property were considered a total loss. Investigators have since conducted an initial survey and gathered photographic evidence. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
