GALION — One student is facing discipline after a threat made on social media resulted in an investigation by school officials.

A female student at Galion High School is facing discipline after a “concerning post” of another student making a threat was determined to be a hoax.

Put simply by Galion Superintendent Jim Grubbs, “Student A” made a report that “Student B” was going to cause harm at the school and “Student C” reported the the post to school administrators.

The post was made shortly after 11 a.m. on the social media app, SnapChat.

Grubbs said the investigation by administrators resulted in the post being a hoax by Student A.

Grubbs said the student was removed from class during the investigation and will face school discipline as a result. He said any legal charges would be up to the county prosecutor.

A report was made by the district’s resource officer.

An all-call message was sent to the district’s parents about the incident.

“The thing I reiterated to the parents was to talk to their students about social media because it can create a lot of panic,” Grubbs said. “I also wanted them to know it was safe to send their children to school.”

Grubbs also commended the other students for speaking up when they saw the post and thought something was out of place.
