SHELBY – Two Shelby police officers were placed on leave because of a fatal shooting in Tiro.

On Feb. 26 at approximately 10 p.m., three officers from the Shelby Police Department responded to a request for assistance from the Ohio State Highway Patrol regarding an active shooter.

During the incident, two officers discharged their firearms at an armed suspect reported to be 27-year-old Aaron Fike of Tiro.

Fike was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of the incident.

The two officers that discharged their firearms were placed on paid administrative leave pending a review of the incident.

Shelby Police Chief Lance Combs said the leave is standard procedure during the review of a fatal shooting.

The investigation was turned over solely to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation from the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, according to Combs.

Combs said he had to limit what he said, as to not affect the investigation in any way.

Due to the incident occurring in Crawford County, and because of the ongoing investigation by the Ohio BCI, the department is not releasing the names of the officers on leave.
