GALION, OH, (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)— The Galion Police are currently searching for individuals who stole a cell phone and wallet and proceeded to make over $2,000 in charges on a victim’s credit card.

The incident was reported by a woman on Thursday evening at around 8 p.m.

According to Officer John Wallis, who is handling the case, the woman stated that she had attended a basketball game at the YMCA and accidentally left her phone on the bleachers. Attached to the phone’s case were various financial cards, including the victim’s identification, credit card, debit card, and health savings card.

Wallis and the victim utilized software to track the stolen items. They discovered the phone was not moving near North Walnut and Norton Way in Bucyrus.

Wallis then contacted the Bucyrus Police Department to request assistance in locating the phone.

The Bucyrus officers found the phone, but unfortunately, the victim’s identification and financial cards were missing.

The victim received notifications indicating that at least one of the credit cards had been used. According to Wallis, the cards were used at the Kroger in Bucyrus, resulting in charges exceeding $2,000.

In order to identify the suspects, the police officer reviewed surveillance camera footage from the YMCA on the evening of the robbery.

The video revealed four boys, approximately between the ages of 15 and 17, picking up the phone and leaving the premises in a vehicle. However, due to the boys wearing hoods, it was difficult to obtain clear images of their faces.

The vehicle used by the suspects was described as a dark-colored, 4-door sedan. Unfortunately, the camera footage was too dark to discern any specific details or obtain a license plate number.

The suspects are now facing felony charges for the theft.
