Beginning next week Ohio motorists on many stretches of interstate highway will be able to get from point A to point B faster – legally. The speed limits on many rural stretches of interstates will go from 65 miles per hour to 70 as part of Gov. John Kasich’s state transportation budget.
The new speed limits go into effect on Monday and will include I-71 between Delaware and Medina. Locally that means trips to see the Indians, Browns or Cavaliers, as well as gambling excursions to the Horseshoe casino and visits to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will take less time.
The current Ohio General Assembly is still debating the state budget which may also increase speed limits on state highways deemed to be “interstate lookalikes.” No word yet on whether that might include the Crawford County portion of the US 30 four-lane highway.
