BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)āBucyrus City Schools hosted its Mobile Workforce Day on May 12, 2026, giving sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students in Crawford County the opportunity to connect directly with local businesses and learn about future career pathways.
More than 30 businesses filled the Bucyrus Secondary School campus for the event, allowing students to speak with industry professionals, ask questions about careers, and gain firsthand exposure to opportunities available throughout the region.
The event, co-designed in partnership with IB Tech, featured regional employers, unions, public service agencies, higher education institutions, and skilled trades organizations. Students interacted directly with professionals from manufacturing, aviation, public safety, utilities, transportation, engineering, healthcare, construction, logistics, and technology.
āIB Tech was thrilled to play a role in bringing his event together,ā said Regina Miller, Human Resource Manager at IB-Tech. āWe believe in investing in our associates at IB Tech, and that includes the future technicians, operators, designers, and administrators who are here in our schools.ā
In addition to Bucyrus students, Crestline Exempted Village School District students also attended the event, making Mobile Workforce Day a collaborative opportunity focused on career awareness and workforce development.
Throughout the day, students rotated through interactive exhibits and mobile career stations where they could ask questions, explore equipment, and learn directly from industry professionals about education requirements, technical skills, and local employment opportunities. Students will also participate in career-engagement activities designed to encourage meaningful conversations with employers and help them better understand future career possibilities.
āThis is the future of education,ā said Bucyrus City Schools superintendent Bob Britton. āItās an example of our True North vision coming to life; where hands-on, community-connected learning helps students build the knowledge, experiences, and confidence to shape their own futures.”
Amy Wood, Director of Leadership and District Partnerships, emphasized the importance of collaboration between schools, businesses, and community organizations in creating opportunities for students.
āThese events can be life-changing for our students,ā Wood added. āExposure to future careers and the opportunity to make a local connection to an employer, or post-secondary training and education, has the potential to set students on a trajectory they otherwise wouldnāt have imagined.ā
A special highlight of the day was the community-supported lunch experience for students. Forge Fire & Company sponsored food truck lunches for all students, covering the full cost of meals as part of its investment in student engagement and workforce development. Students had access to several local food truck vendors after completing their career exploration activities.
Bucyrus City Schools is deeply grateful to Forge Fire & Company for making this experience possible for students. Their generosity not only provided lunch, but also helped create a positive, celebratory environment that reinforced the purpose of the day: connecting students to local opportunities, local businesses, and a community that believes in their future.
Participating organizations include Operators Labor Local 1216, North Central Correctional Complex, Crawford County Sheriffās Office, MedFlight of Galion, Bucyrus Fire Department, Vaughn Industries, TC Energy, Charles River Laboratories, Carpenter Union Local 735, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Nightwatch Aviation, OSU Mobile Design Lab, and many others.
