BUCYRUS — Matthew Palmer of Galion appeared in Crawford County Common Pleas Court on Thursday to plead guilty to one count of possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, punishable with up to 12 months in prison, one count each of drug abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanors.

In exchange for his guilty plea, Common Pleas Judge Sean Leuthold sentenced Palmer, 30, to a flat six months in prison. Palmer will forfeit all drug related property to the Galion Police Department. He will receive credit for jail time served.

In other court action, Aacin Webb, 23, currently housed at the Crawford County Justice Center pleaded guilty to violating the terms and conditions of his community control. Webb was originally convicted of vandalism in 2018 and sentenced to five years of community control. In March, he violated those terms the first time and was sentenced to 12 months in prison. He was granted judicial release in May.

According to probation officer Mark Bohach, Webb submitted to a routine urine drug screen which resulted in positive testing for meth, methamphetamines and THC. Leuthold reimposed the 12-month prison sentence but said he would not oppose transitional control if the prison requested it.

Brandon Gillespie, 36, of Galion admitted violating the terms and conditions of his community control. In August, Gillespie pleaded guilty to one count of domestic violence, a fourth-degree felony punishable with up to 18 months in prison. Gillespie was placed on five years of community control and told to have no contact with the victim.

According to probation officer Eric Bohach, Gillespie’s case had been transferred to Richland County. When county probation officers did a routine home visit, they found the victim hidden in Gillespie’s house. Bohach ordered him to be held and transferred to Crawford County for a probation violation charge. Bohach reviewed phone records from the Crawford County Justice Center and learned that Gillespie had called the victim over 200 times from the jail.

Leuthold sentenced Gillespie to 12 months in prison, with credit for jail time served.
