Crawford County Dog Warden Angie Chandler met with the Crawford County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday to provide an update on county dog tag sales.
Chandler reported the county having 8,044 active dog tags, with 7,686 tags purchased in 2018.
Of the tags sold in 2018, 7,209 were sold as one-year tags, 99 were sold as three-year tags and 13 lifetime tags were sold.
Chandler said she hopes to hit the goal of 9,000 tags sold in 2018. The goal is based off an estimate that the 41,736 residents of Crawford County have 9,375 dogs. The number is found using a formula Chandler has access to.
Dogs tags purchased before Jan. 31 were $16 and individuals who have not yet purchased their 2018 tags now must pay $32.
The tags still are $16 for dog owners under circumstances. Dogs must be licensed if they are older than three months old and have been in the possession of the owner for more than 30 days.
Newly acquired dogs will cost owners the original $16.
Chandler said she recently began calling and contacting dog owners who are listed as non-renewal dog owners. She said she will continue until all are contacted.
