BUCYRUS — Classic car enthusiasts will have the opportunity to walk the streets of downtown Bucyrus to see their favorite rides, but not in the heat of June in 2020.

Due to circumstances created by the COVID-19 pandemic, the annual Cruisin’ with the Cops Custom and Classic Car Show has fallen down the calendar to Sept. 5.

Bucyrus Police Department dispatcher and car show volunteer Jennifer Gerger said the timeline for much of the work that happens before the show was quickly approaching and decisions needed to be made. She said fliers for the show typically are mailed out during mid-April.

There also was the possibility of the show taking place during the projected decline of the COVID-19 coronavirus. Gerger said the show was set for just six weeks after the projected peak of the virus’ impact.

She said the Bucyrus Fraternal Order of Police, the sponsor organization, made sure to pick a date that did not interfere with other events such as other car shows.

Though the show has moved, Gerger said the show will take place as planned. She said the fliers will go out a few weeks later, and when Sept. 5 comes, the show will go on. On Sept. 5, the streets will be closed at noon, the show will start at 2 p.m. and judging will be at 6 p.m. Trophy presentations typically occur at 8 p.m. at Bucyrus City Hall.

All other items of food and entertainment remain in the plans for the show including a movie shown at Schines Art Park, various food vendors and more.

Pre-registration still is available for the event though it is not necessary.  Pre-registration does come with a t-shirt. Those on the car show’s mailing list can expect a flier in the coming weeks and updates on the show may be found on the Cruisin’ with the Cops Facebook page.
