CRAWFORD COUNTY, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office has added a new member to its law enforcement team: K-9 Riggs, a one-year-old Belgian Malinois imported from Holland.

Riggs officially began serving with the Sheriff’s Office on Oct. 5, 2026. He was purchased with funds generated through drug seizures.

Riggs is partnered with K-9 handler Lt. Dave Rowland. The team recently completed an intensive five-week training program at Tri-State Canine Services in Warren, Ohio. Their training concluded with certification approved by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy.

Trained in patrol operations and narcotics detection, Riggs will assist with patrol duties, criminal investigations and efforts to keep illegal drugs out of the community.

“We are excited to welcome Riggs to our team,” Sheriff Scott Kent said. “The addition of K-9 Riggs and Lt. Rowland strengthens our commitment to public safety and increases the office’s proactive law enforcement capabilities.”

Riggs and Rowland are now on active duty serving Crawford County residents.
