GALION — The Northmor Board of Education held their monthly meeting on Tuesday evening.

After much discussion into the matter, the board decided to amend their original District Reopening Plan.

In the original plan, once Morrow county hit the red level in the COVID-19 risk levels, the schools would be switched to a hybrid learning model, where students would attend school two days in person and three days online.

With the amended Reopening Plan, whether the school will move to a hybrid learning model or not will depend on the superintendent’s discretion with board consultation.

Part of the reason behind this decision was dependent on the situation where the county may be on the red level, but there are not many COVID cases within the district, so the school could elect to stay functioning with kids in the classrooms five days a week.  However, should the county be on the red level with a large portion of cases in the district, the school would most likely be moved to hybrid learning at that point. The amended plan just allows for a little more flexibility.

Should parents not want to send their child to school due to this change, they can withdraw them and enter them into the Online Learning Academy.

On the COVID dashboard on the school’s website, it states that there are five students from seventh to twelfth grade and one support staff member that are quarantined, but there are no positive, active cases. Those individuals are being required to quarantine for fourteen days and may return to school premises on November 2. This information was last updated on October 20, and the counts are updated from verified information from the Morrow County Public Health Department.

In other happenings at the meeting, the school accepted the donation of the football scoreboard from Iberia Earthworm Construction, LLC., from Louie and Karen Cortez.

The next regularly scheduled board meeting is November 17 at 6 p.m.
