With a few weeks to review the resolution and all of Bucyrus City Council present, a resolution that would bring Bucyrus $155,000 in grant money was passed Tuesday night.
Resolution No. 214-2013, which failed 4-2 at the June 18 city council meeting, passed unanimously. The resolution allows for the Walnut St. Waterline project to go forward. Funding for the project will come through a $155,000 Ohio Public Works Commission (OPWC) Grant.
An ordinance changing the Traffic Control Map and File had its second and third readings suspended Tuesday night.
Ordinance 19-2013 calls for the moving of a crosswalk in the 500 block of North Lane Street 10 feet north; removing of the stop sign at Redman Way and Hill Street and replacing it with a yield sign; and banning parking on the south side of Hill Street.
Cherry Lane resident Dennis Moore spoke to city council about the city adding more on duty police officers during the public speaking minutes. Moore who had his car broken into addressed council saying, “I don’t know what we are going to do about this.”
Mayor Roger Moore ddressed Moore saying, “I think council and the administration all share your frustration.” Mayor Moore continued, “We need to come together as a group and there is now way about it you have heard it from me before the citizens have to stand up and support a safety levy.”
Council President Garnet Love responded saying, “We want nothing More than to more police out there, but we can’t make the money appear. With State and Federal funds being cut we just can’t do it.”
During Safety Service Director Jeff Wagner’s report Wagner announced that the Week of July 19 Bucyrus Little League will host a week long State Little League Softball Tournament with the winner of the tournament receiving a seed in Girls 10 and 11 World Series of Softball Tournament.
Wagner gave a final warning to residents who mow their lawn and leave grass in the streets. Wagner warned that those who do so will receive a citation.
